Biographical Information

Ann (Billings) Adjutant teaches physics at Deering High School in Portland and is a recognized leader in both the science department and the school. "I try to bring the latest in physics education instruction to my students," she says. Seventy percent of the students at Deering take physics, which is more than the nation average. Ms. (Billings) Adjutant has consulted at the state level as a member of the Instructional Support Group, has been involved in two fellowship programs, and has served on a committee to develop a proposal for the Portland School System to become a beacon school for innovations in math and science education. Her work toward the development of a statewide systematic initiative for the improvement of mathematics and science teaching, kindergarten to college level, was rewarded when Maine was named one of eleven states to receive a 10 million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation.
