Allen Poplin, assistant principal at Baldwin High School in Baldwin, has helped develop a class-within-a-class approach to teaching students with special needs. These students are placed in the regular classroom where they are taught by both a regular education and a special education teacher. The program not only benefits students but teachers as well, as they are able to learn from each other's teaching styles. Mr. Poplin has also assisted in the development of a homework hotline to inform students and their parents of the day's homework assignments. The vocational education committees and school site councils Mr. Poplin has helped form, provide opportunities for community members to become more involved in decisions that benefit students' education and the entire community of Baldwin.
