Allan G. Snell, a veteran leader in public education, is principal of the Washington Street School and curriculum director of the Brewer School Department. He believes that parents should be involved in school programs, and is currently working with Washington Street School staff to create more consistent home-school relationships. Mr. Snell was instrumental in establishing the Maine Principal's Academy and in winning a grant to fund Maine Principals Academy II for Academy graduates. In 1990 he attended the Principals International Invitation Conference at Oxford University. He was named both Maine Elementary Principal of the Year and National Distinguished Principal in 1984.
