A Mexican-born educator who immigrated to the United States as an adult. He started his education profession for a second time in the USA as he was a teacher in Mexico. He went from being a Paraprofessional, Teacher and Principal at Lewis and Clark Elementary School in Wenatchee, Washington. He spent 27 years in the same school and in 2023 Mr. López was promoted to work in the same district as a Director of Hispanic/Latino relations. He knows first-hand the challenges of learning a new language and culture. He has also highlighted the importance of life-long learning and parental involvement in education through articles he has written for a local newspaper, and has taught classes on how parents can help their children read at home. He currently hosts a radio program where he informs the community about educational topics. A role model in his community, Mr. Lopez received the 1998 Washington Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 1999 he received the Milken Family Foundation Award. In 2000 he received the Region Teacher of the Year Award, and in 2019 he was named Washington Principal of the Year.
