Shannon Garrison is currently a 5th grade teacher at Stonehurst STEAM Magnet in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Shannon prides herself on providing students with a safe, loving environment and a rigorous, engaging, standards-based educational program. She believes it is her job to help all students discover their greatness, and she works tirelessly to bring a variety of opportunities to her students so they can grow academically and discover their passions. Shannon is a National Board Certified teacher and recently received The Henry Ford Teacher Innovator Award . In 2010, Shannon received a fellowship to the Lowell Milken Center where she studied project-based learning. She returned for several years as the Summer Fellowship Director. In 2010, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan appointed Shannon to the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB). NAGB sets policy for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), commonly known as The Nation's Report Card. She served two terms on NAGB and was chair of the Assessment Development Committee for six years. Shannon was named a 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year for the Los Angeles Unified School District and a 2016-2017 Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year. She was also a semifinalist for California Teacher of the Year. Shannon'’s passion for teaching and her commitment and dedication to her students, school, and community are unwavering.
