Milken CARES — Milken CAlifornians Reimagining Education and Schools
The purpose of Milken CARES is to foster a sense of connection and community among Milken Educators from California. This initiative aims to create meaningful opportunities for educators to reconnect, share updates, and engage in ongoing collaboration. By providing a simple and accessible platform for communication, Milken CARES seeks to strengthen relationships and support the professional growth of Milken Educators, allowing them to exchange ideas, celebrate accomplishments, and inspire one another in their continued commitment to excellence in education and the goals of the Milken Educator Awards.
The project incorporates the following:
Quarterly, virtual meetings via Zoom where we celebrate, elevate and activate!
California Miken Educators connected virtually during the August Milken CARES Virtual MeetUp that highlighted the theme of New Beginnings to kick off the school year. Each meeting integrates a Celebrate, Elevate, and Activate component aligned to the purpose of the Milken Educator Awards.
Celebrate: Focus attention on the good news in education by celebrating achievements and success within the network.
Elevate: Spotlight the importance of exceptional educators, encourage talented people to enter the teaching profession, and build our network to attract and retain talented people to education.
Activate: Foster the active professional development and career enhancement of Milken Educators and other professionals, encourage Milken Educators to help shape the educational policies that influence their classrooms and schools, and connect Milken Educators with the educational improvement efforts of state and federal education agencies, universities, educators and corporate partners.
California Milken Educator Dr. Manuel Rustin (CA ‘11) delivered the keynote for the May Milken CARES Virtual MeetUp that highlighted the theme of Reflections. Dr. Rustin discussed the challenges teachers face when navigating sensitive topics in education.
California Milken Educator Dr. Yvonne Chan (CA ‘91) delivered a timely keynote on Aspirational Leadership for the August Milken CARES Virtual MeetUp. Dr. Chan shared relevant context for topics including the new math framework, the science of reading, climate change, student wellness, community schools, and housing for the teacher workforce.
