Teachers of Promise Institute

The Teachers of Promise Institute was launched in 2004 to identify and honor the best future teachers from colleges and universities across Virginia. This two-day event celebrates the decision to teach, elevates the teaching profession to the status it deserves, and activates a network of excellence for support. The Institute utilizes general sessions, concurrent workshops, and mentor group discussions led by expert practitioners, including Milken Educators. Each Teacher of Promise is given a commemorative lapel pin during a special ceremony that marks their entry into the teaching profession and which connects them to a community of honorees across the Commonwealth.
To date, almost 4,000 Teachers of Promise from three dozen colleges and universities have been recognized and more than 75 veteran educators, including dozens of Milken Educators, have served as mentors and presenters. More than $1,000,000 has been raised and spent on the effort. Teachers of Promise alumni include multiple State Teachers of the Year and Milken Educator Ryan Sykes (VA ‘19). The Institute is funded and supported by the 501(c)(3) Teachers of Promise Foundation.
Mentors at the 2023 Teachers of Promise Institute presenters and mentors included 24 Milken Educators.
Wade Whitehead (VA ‘00) welcomes attendees to the 2022 Teachers of Promise Institute.
