Missouri Teacher Leaders of Tomorrow

The Missouri Milken Educators collaborated on a mission to address the teacher shortage and encourage the best and brightest who are entering the profession we love. We created the Missouri Teacher Leaders of Tomorrow (MTLT) to celebrate individuals who have demonstrated high potential to achieve greatness in education. In the first three years we have honored 33 new teachers with the award from 14 universities across Missouri.
A 2024 MTLT honoree responded to a survey, saying, “I feel more confident about my first year of teaching. I feel more comfortable with the idea of not being perfect, with voicing my opinions ‘despite being the newbie’ and with asking for advice from people outside my school.”
Aligned to the Milken Educator Award, we CELEBRATE these teachers in a surprise notification in cooperation with their university. Then we bring them together at a statewide event supported by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to ACTIVATE them as a network of outstanding teachers. We partner each awardee with a Missouri Milken Educator mentor to ELEVATE awardees to reach for excellence as they navigate their first year as a teacher.
At our MTLT Network celebration, honorees are recognized by the State Board of Education and participate in a pinning ceremony. The power in this project is that over 30% of Missouri Milken Educators have engaged in MTLT. We developed this model so that other Milken state networks can easily replicate it in their states.
