Mike Patterson (NV ' 09) Named 2025 Nevada State Teacher of the Year

Mike Patterson (NV '09) was named 2025 Nevada Teacher of the Year in Las Vegas on October 14, 2024. This award honors Patterson's 30-year career teaching geometry, algebra and calculus. Patterson will represent Nevada in the 2025 National Teacher of the Year contest, facilitated by the Council of Chief State School Officers.
In addition to his Milken Educator Award, Patterson received a Presidential Award for Excellence in
Mathematics and Science Teaching from the U.S. National Science Foundation, and the local Heart
of Education award. He is National Board Certified and a former president of the Southern Nevada
Mathematics Council. Patterson is known for making math fun by creating board games and
interactive web programs to further his lesson plans. Praising Patterson on the honor, A-Tech
Principal Anthony Marentic noted that he is committed to caring for students, leading with heart,
and bringing creative passion to every lesson.
