Since 2004, Dr. Amy Murphy has been principal of Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, where she has led many innovations including a peer tutoring program designed to mainstream special needs students. Previously, Dr. Murphy was associate principal of curriculum and instruction at Blue Valley North High School where she developed modified block scheduling that incorporated weekly professional learning community time for staff and academic support time for students. She has also worked with the staff to create a program of tiered academic support strategies called S.O.A.R. Dr. Murphy is an involved leader and communicator who visits classes, shares lunch in the cafeteria with students and teachers, and works with them on a one-on-one basis. A former middle school math teacher and assistant principal, Dr. Murphy was instrumental in opening a new middle school in the district.
