It's a big morning at Ruben S. Torres Elementary School in Deming: New Mexico Lieutenant Governor Dr. Howie Morales and Secretary of Public Education Dr. Arsenio Romero are visiting for a big assembly to celebrate the school's improvement in the state's designations this year. All becomes clear when surprise guest Dr. Jane Foley, senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards, presents fifth grade teacher Magali Gomez with a 2023-24 Milken Award and $25,000.
