Biographical Information

Roger Kassebaum is a science and physics teacher and director of the Mitchell Academy for Science and Technology at Milken Community High School in Los Angeles. The academy, which Kassebaum regards as a vehicle for students to "go deep" with their interest in science, includes a three-year science research institute where students work in university research laboratories and prepare for the Intel Talent Search and the NASA FIRST international robotics competition. The academy also connects students to science resources in Israel. Previously, Kassebaum taught in Nebraska for 22 years. While a physics teacher at Millard North High School in Omaha, he placed much of his curriculum on a CD-ROM so that students could readily access the materials, and served on the curriculum design team for KidSat, a NASA-sponsored program that allows middle school students to control a digital still camera aboard the space shuttle.
