Biographical Information
John Breaugh was personally selected by Marvin E. Beekman to be principal at the Beekman Center when it opened in 1968, and since then he has made many contributions to the lives of his special-needs students, their parents and his staff. He has initiated several program options, at Beekman Center and in the Lansing School District, that integrate students with special needs into programs of their general education peers. He has also pioneered a therapeutic horse-back riding program for the handicapped, and supervised a job placement program that has placed more than 300 students with special needs Through federal grants, he has also been able to expand the school's facilities and to develop a Work Activity Center.
