Biographical Information
Pamela Chernesky is the arts coordinator at Portland's Governor Baxter School for the Deaf, an institution that serves 340 students enrolled in its outreach program, in addition to 90 on-campus students. The school's population ranges from infants to 21-year-olds, thereby allowing Ms. Inman to bring visual and performing arts instruction to very young children in a Parent Infant/Toddler Program, as well as to young adults. Ms. Inman, who is the local site-coordinator for Very Special Arts Maine, and who has frequently trained other educators in arts education, has recently collaborated on the creation of WISE (We Integrate, Sensitize and Energize), a diversity-training program designed to include staff and families, as well as students, in experiential arts and activities that promote tolerance and understanding of others. In 1994, Ms. Inman directed and accompanied three students who participated in the Very Special Arts Festival held in Belgium
