Biographical Information
In 1993, Susan Falcone, family studies teacher at Loch Raven High School in Baltimore, integrated technology into her family studies program, creating a semester course entitled "Living with Biotechnology." The course teaches students to critically investigate the short- and long-term impact of biotechnology on individuals, families, the economy and the environment. In teaching this class, she encourages her students to use the Internet to access the most up-to-date biotechnical information. A 30-year veteran of education, Ms. Falcone is also active in developing school-to-career initiatives, for which she created a student-managed portfolio model that is currently being used in ten high schools. Ms. Falcone is also a frequent presenter at conferences.
