Biographical Information
At Century High School in Sykesville, science teacher content liaison Karen Luniewski uses a variety of resources and strategies to make instruction authentic and interesting. She recently encouraged Congressman Roscoe Bartlett to share his experiences from an Arctic expedition with her students, bringing the world of science to life. Mrs. Luniewski incorporates current technologies in her instruction, as when she teaches students about data collection using actual data from operational satellites. She also involves parents and community members in the educational process through activities such as "Telescope Night," a midnight star-gazing event. Certified in biology and earth science, Mrs. Luniewski participates in summer instructional programs at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and has worked with her school district and NASA for the last three years on an advanced curriculum for Earth and Space Science.
