Biographical Information

Ginger Mendenhall is a specialist at Liberty Elementary School in Ponca City, a position she has held since 2004. Previously, she was a classroom teacher at Marshall Elementary School in Tulsa, where she adapted instructional strategies to learning styles in her fifth-grade classroom. Some of her students read while pedaling a stationary bike while others chose to read alone or with a partner. This individualized approach led to soaring student achievement and earned Mendenhall a STAR Teacher Award from Northeastern State University for creating a model classroom. In 2001, she received National Board Certification and was also certified as a learning style instructor from St. John's University in New York. Mendenhall was named her district's Teacher of the Year in 2002. In 2007, Mendenhall was Oklahoma's choice for the National Education Association's (NEA) Friends of Education, and was one of ten finalists for the NEA award presented in Washington, D.C.
