Biographical Information
In 1992, agriculture instructor Thomas Paulsen was selected to launch a new agriculture program at Carroll High School in Carroll. He has since developed a hands-on, community-based program that covers agribusiness, horticulture, advanced animal sciences, and wildlife and fisheries management. Combining interdisciplinary applied academics with real-world learning experiences, the program has seen a five-fold increase in enrollment since its inception. Mr. Paulsen is a member of the statewide Agricultural Educators' Professional Development Committee and actively participates in state and national associations for agriculture educators. He has established Carroll High School as a training center for student teachers from Iowa State University and has led and served on numerous school committees. In 2000, Mr. Paulsen was named Iowa Teacher of the Year.
