Biographical Information
Science teacher and department chair Gene Williams has co-developed a comprehensive, inquiry-based science curriculum for alternative education at Emerson Secondary School in Okalahoma City. An accomplished research scientist, Mr. Williams collaborates with colleagues to provide interdisciplinary instruction with real-world applications. He established a partnership with the city's Myriad Botanical Gardens that allows students to study at the gardens. He was also instrumental in developing educational externships that place district science teachers in science-related business settings to help improve their classroom instruction. As Emerson's technology coordinator, Mr. Williams has worked with the business and scientific communities to procure and install a significant amount of hardware and software for the school. A certified teacher trainer, he frequently conducts workshops for district teachers on the use of science equipment.
