Biographical Information

Avalyn (Avis) Balliet, social studies teacher and department chair at Lady Bird Johnson Middle School, begins a new journey in 2011- 2012 school year. As part a of "dream team" of teachers, she will open the largest net-zero middle school in the country. This new building is designed to create and store the energy that it consumes; thus negating its carbon footprint. In an effort to become a paperless school, she is leading the social studies department in a pilot program using iPads and cloud technology systems for students to share information with each other and across disciplines.
