Biographical Information

At Soldier Creek Elementary School in Midwest City, students look forward to teacher Marcellus Hankins's theater arts and music classes with excitement and anticipation. By participating in his choir, talent shows and musical productions, Mr. Hankins's students develop confidence and self-esteem. Each year, he writes songs for his sixth-graders, making it seem that they were written specifically for each student. He developed an arts program for transitional first-graders incorporating music into storytelling, and directs a district-level musical each year that allows students from multiple schools to participate. Director of the annual Mid-Del Festival, Mr. Hankins performs professionally with a local theatre and is the Oklahoma City Art Works Program Director.
