Biographical Information
On any given day, Timothy Tutt's third-graders at Hanawalt Elementary School in Des Moines may be rapping their multiplication tables, preparing food for homeless people, or outdoing themselves on a test in hopes of winning a trip in the "Tuttmobile." Mr. Tutt's unconventional pedagogy addresses many different learning styles, and ignites students' pleasure and passion for learning. Students calling into the Homework Hotline may hear an episode of "Assignments of Our Lives," an on-going soap opera about the homework travails of an unfortunate student named Timmy, complete with organ and sound effects. Mr. Tutt also uses on-line technology so students can understand geography and regional differences by communicating with "key pals" (pen pals who communicate through email) in schools across the country.
